About the artist
Alvin Kofi has been an established artist in the UK for over fifteen years, and is reflected in a wide range of work that extends into all areas of the creative industries. He was the founder of the company “Bushmen” which was responsible for launching the first African centric prints into the UK market on a large scale.Active in his community, in the mid nineties, he introduced an art forum call “Art & Conversation” that allowed people access to the Black fine arts and debate issues that effected them. He has had many one man shows and exhibited in mixed exhibitions both here in the UK, US and Europe.
Artist work
Kofi’s work captures the tradition and magic that is reflected in African culture, portrayed in a bold graceful manner, expressed through movement, line and colour that displays the essence of the subject matter represented. Distinct in his style and approach and with consistency he has earned the recognition as one of the leading Black artist here in the UK.
Commercial
In the early part of his career he worked in advertising, both in the private and commercial markets, producing CD and magazine covers, murals, logos, portraits and designed interiors. He still continues to be commissioned for his talents as a portraits artist and muralist and presently offers a large range of prints, greeting cards, limited editions and originals to the market.
Teaching
He teaches privately, works in schools and collages through which over the years has enabled him to develop and run his own creative drawing workshops and programmes. His interest in history has stimulated him to write down his views and philosophy, which he has presented through the medium of theatre.
In continued research and with his love for his culture, he shares with the wider community his thoughts and findings through his art.
His images are not only food for thought but food for the spirit
